Muncie Marriage License Requirements
Indiana requires both applicants to appear in person at the county clerk's office under IC 31-11-4-3. Both of you must be at the Delaware County Clerk's office on the same visit. You cannot apply by mail or have someone else apply on your behalf. You both present your IDs, provide Social Security numbers, and sign the application at the counter in the Delaware Justice Center.
A valid photo ID is required. The Delaware County Clerk accepts a driver's license, U.S. passport, state-issued ID card, or military ID. A birth certificate can work but must be accompanied by a separate photo ID. Both applicants must provide their Social Security numbers during the application. If either person was previously married, bring proof that the prior marriage ended: a certified divorce decree or a death certificate. Arrive with the original or a certified copy. A photocopy is not acceptable.
Under IC 31-11-1-4, applicants must be at least 18 years old to marry without parental consent in Indiana. If you are 16 or 17, a parent or guardian must come to the Delaware County Clerk's office with you and provide consent in person. Indiana does not allow marriage for anyone under 16.
Before going to the Delaware Justice Center, complete the Indiana online pre-application at courts.in.gov/marriage. This step is required under IC 31-11-4-1. Use a laptop or desktop to fill it out at home before your visit. It makes the in-person step faster and ensures the clerk has the information needed when you arrive.
