The city of Marion should not be confused with Marion County, which covers Indianapolis. They are separate places. Marion the city is in Grant County in north-central Indiana. Marion Marriage License Requirements
Indiana law under IC 31-11-4-3 requires both people to appear in person at the county clerk's office when applying for a marriage license. This applies fully in Marion. Both of you must go to the Grant County Clerk's office at 101 E. 4th Street together, on the same day. You sign the application at the counter in person. There is no mail-in or online-only option for the actual license.
You need a valid photo ID from a government source. The Grant County Clerk accepts a driver's license, U.S. passport, state-issued ID card, or military ID. A birth certificate can work if paired with a second form of photo ID. Both applicants must provide their Social Security numbers. If either person was married before, bring the divorce decree from that prior marriage or, if widowed, a death certificate for the former spouse. Do not arrive without these documents if they apply to you, as the clerk cannot issue a license without them.
The age rule under IC 31-11-1-4 sets 18 as the minimum to marry without parental consent. If you are 16 or 17, a parent or guardian must come with you to the Grant County Clerk's office and give consent in person. Indiana does not allow marriage for anyone under 16.

Your marriage license is valid for 60 days from the date it is issued, as established by IC 31-11-4-10. Indiana has no waiting period between getting the license and holding the ceremony. The license is not restricted to Grant County or the Marion area.
The person who officiates your ceremony must complete the return portion of the marriage license.
