The Owen County Clerk requires an appointment for all marriage license applications. This is different from almost every other Indiana county, where walk-ins are the norm. You must schedule your visit in advance. The clerk's office does not provide application information over the phone, so your appointment is also your best chance to ask questions in person. Both applicants must appear together at that appointment under IC 31-11-4-3.

Bring valid ID for both applicants. Standard options include a driver's license, state ID, passport, or birth certificate. Your Social Security number is required on the application. If either of you was previously married, bring the date that marriage ended. Under IC 31-11-4-1, prior marriages must be disclosed before Indiana will issue a new license.
Both applicants must be at least 18 years old under IC 31-11-1-4. Sixteen- and seventeen-year-olds may apply with parental consent. The clerk can explain the additional steps needed for minor applicants when you come in for your appointment. Once issued, the Owen County marriage license is valid for 60 days under IC 31-11-4-10.
After the ceremony, the officiant must return the signed license to the Owen County Clerk within 30 days per IC 31-11-4-18. This creates the permanent record. Copies of the license cost $1.00 per page, and certified copies cost $1.00 per document, which is considerably lower than most Indiana counties.
