Applying for a Montgomery County Marriage License
Both applicants must appear in person together at the Montgomery County Clerk's office under IC 31-11-4-3. One party must be a resident of Montgomery County to apply here. If neither of you lives in Indiana, you may apply as out-of-state applicants at the higher fee rate. Valid ID is required for both applicants. A driver's license, state ID, or similar government-issued photo ID is standard. Your Social Security number is required on the application. If you were previously married, you must give the date that prior marriage ended. Bring documentation if you have it. Under IC 31-11-4-1, these disclosures are required before any Indiana county can issue a marriage license.
The license is valid for 60 days from issue under IC 31-11-4-10. Indiana has no waiting period, so you can marry the same day you receive the license. After the ceremony, the officiant must return the signed license to the Montgomery County Clerk within 30 days per IC 31-11-4-18.
