How to Apply for a Parke County Marriage License
Applying for a Parke County marriage license is a straightforward process. Both people must go to the clerk's office in Rockville at the same time. You cannot apply by mail or online. Under IC 31-11-4-3, both applicants must appear in person before the clerk. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID such as a driver's license, passport, state ID card, or military ID. If you were married before, bring your divorce decree or a death certificate for the prior spouse.
Indiana law requires that applicants provide their Social Security numbers when applying. This is true even if you were born outside the United States. The clerk will also ask for your date of birth to verify that you meet the minimum age requirement. Under IC 31-11-1-4, you must be at least 18 years old to marry without parental consent. Those aged 16 or 17 may apply with a parent or guardian present. The license is valid for 60 days from the date of issue under IC 31-11-4-10. There is no waiting period in Indiana, so you can marry the same day you get the license. No blood test is required.
The Indiana Courts pre-application at courts.in.gov/marriage lets you fill in your information online before your visit to the Parke County Clerk. This is not required, but it speeds up the process at the office.
Note: The license is only valid for ceremonies performed in Indiana, but it can be used in any Indiana county, not just Parke County.
Parke County Marriage License Fees
Parke County charges $18.00 for residents of Indiana and $60.00 for couples where at least one person lives out of state. These fees are set at the county level, so they may differ from what you'd pay in a neighboring county. Pay the fee when you pick up the license. Cash and check are typically accepted; call ahead to ask about card payments.
The license fee covers the document itself. If you need a certified copy of your marriage record later, there is usually a separate copy fee. Certified copies are often needed for name changes, insurance updates, and other legal matters. Contact the clerk's office directly to ask about copy fees.

Here is what each applicant should bring:
- Valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, military ID, or state ID)
- Social Security number (card not required, but the number must be provided)
